Bootable XP
August 7th, 2016
I burned all files to a DVD and i read thats wrong. I guess its wrong because it didnt work..
now i read i have to make the files into ISO…using UltraIso for example
Now when i create the iso how exactly do i burn it on the DVD?(havent done this before)
An iso is an exact track by track copy of the entire disk. In the case of an OS installer, or other bootable disks, what you downloaded is usually an iso.
You use an iso burning program to burn it to disk.
Use A Simple Program IMGBurn To Burn it
UltraIso wouldn’t do…as you need the boot file that get stored in the boot sector…
Either get an empty bootable XP iso and use UltraIso to copy the files/folders to it…
or:
Creating Bootable Disc using Nero

Something went wrong, i created the iso..also managed to make it bootable with UltraIso(it says bootable CD/DVD)
Then i burned the iso using UltraIso again but doesnt work..now did i do something wrong?
Alternatively, can i install windows xp from desktop? I use win 7 now…when i run it, its grayed out, and cannot install it. Is it possible in any way?
You cannot downgrade from Windows 7 to XP…
You need to boot from the XP install CD and do a clean install.
Ok thx, i will try to make it bootable with nero as you suggested above!!!!
Why not just use nlite? That will make a bootable CD/DVD Iso without a problem. You can simply burn that using any image burning software such as Nero.
Eventually i used PowerIso..but i have a problem. I opened the iso with PowerIso, and burned the files..it became bootable and it should work(according to my bro who has done it before).
When i start the pc, i adjust bios to boot from Cd…but it doesnt boot, it gets me to windows 7 with a small delay!
I also tried to use F8 to directly boot from cd (without bios change), but same problem..
any ideas?
EDIT : got it working, used another version!! last one must have been corrupted
