Best way to make a GIF from movie?

What are some good ways and programs that I can create a GIF from a movie?

Thanks, I’ve looked on Google and can’t find anything too solid on whats the best program for it.

In addition to Ledastray’s advice above, I would suggest using avidemux to turn a film clip into still images (if required).
