Best way to burn MKV to DVD on Mac?

August 27th, 2013

Hi all.
I like to burn movies to play on DVD for friends but always encounter issues with MKV format. Either bad quality or sound that is completely out of sync. I have tried using Toast, DVD studio, Xilisoft and VisualHub, but keep having the same problems. Does anyone know of a good piece of software (for Mac) that can convert and burn MKV files to disc quickly and decently?
Appreciate any help!
Thanks

Sorry mate, never done it with Mac myself, however I have seen a few posts on Mac forums recommending converting .mkv to .avi first before transcoding with VLC ?
Maybe something here will help ?

This seems to be the recommendation on Afterdawn

Hope that helps.

Thanks Gilly! Appreciate the time you’ve taken to reply. I have tried converting to .avi a few times, but more often than not I end up doubling the time it takes to burn the DVD and getting the same results. Saying that, though, I’ll follow up the link you sent and let you know how it goes. Cheers again!

It’s quite a few years since I used Mac, so am a bit out of date.
Best of luck anyway

As much as I tried, I couldn’t get MKV tools to work. It wouldn’t let me convert to .avi and when I tried .mp4 output as an alternative it just spewed out a load of broken file types. Currently in the middle of converting a video file using MKV converter, so hopefully more luck with that.
Anyone else have any ideas?
