Best graphics card for Vista?

March 24th, 2017

I’m planning to update my Dell XPS 410 to run vista mainly for the games and graphics.
-I want to update to the best compatible graphics card.
-I also want something that can properly display my computer onto my 720P HDTV
-Can anyone show me some links to buy the card? Preferable “newegg.com” links to the product, if its available on that site?

well with a Dell, a good card will overheat from lack of cooling. Your best bet will either be a good but cool card. Maybe a HD 3870 or 8800GT. Here you go:
8800GT:

HD 3870:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102752
But you will also need a new power supply to accomodate the card. If you want i can fetch one off newegg for you

Well the card isnt as good as the HD 3870. The 3650 is more of a multimedia card, sure it can play games but just not as a 3870 would. And a 1GB Vram is overkill for a simple setup like yours, not necessary.

Not really. Its similar to adding a network card, sound card etc First take out the screw in the PCI bracket that is on the case. Then on the PCI-E slot on the motherboard where the graphic card sits, there is a small clip you push down on. Use one finger and push it down, then with the other hand remove the card. Put the old card into an antistatic bag for a back-up in-case, the bag is to prevent static electricity getting to it and killing it.
Next, with the new Graphic card, align it with the PCI-E slot and the bracket on the case. Put the foreward end first, so the little “L” hook clips in. Then slide the card back slowly until it is seated. Once its in place screw the card into the bracket with the screw you took from the older card’s bracket. Easy as done, oh and for precautions discharge yourself of static electricity first and during the process by touching the case every 10min or so. Dont build it on carpet for these reasons.

he will need a new psu to go along with that. The 1GB version is too much for a simple pc, 512MB versions are good enough already. I mean, why get a gaming card when the rest wont conform with it?
Answer #14
it seems like i should just buy this right?

If i buy that.. what else will i need to make the pc work?
also..is that good for playin movies in 720p aswell as games like need for speed
Answer #15
nothing and the video card they are providing in that kit will do it all
Answer #16
well thats just a basic pc. For good gaming you will want a better gpu, the 9600 GSO, the RAM and the AMD isnt cut out for intense gaming. It will play newer games but will decrease in quality as games come by. Why not get a custom build from Newegg?
Answer #17
Just get a hd4850 then – your old xps should be able to handle it.
Answer #18
your old xps should be able to handle it.
consider the case its in and what pre-built manufacturers do to prevent total upgrades. The card will overheat in a Dell case for sure, lack of intake and outtake
Answer #19
if he takes his side panel off temps might be fine. It’ll also be best for him to get a dual slot cooler on the gpu so heat isnt dumped into the case
Answer #20
if he takes his side panel off temps might be fine
might be but think of the dust that gets in/out and how annoying it would be. Cases like those still use screws i think, so leaning back there, twisting your wrist off to play 1 game then replacing it- wouldnt it get annoying? May as well get a new case

it would be better if he left his side panel off the whole time, i do that for my pc and it helps my cpu and gpu temps a lot.

That sounds a little extreme and sounds to expensive.. I first just wanted to simply buy a new video card and plug it in and be good to go. but it seems that’s not the case lol..
So buying this:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4300387&Sku=P450-9118%20E
Should be good enough to enjoy playing games such as Need for speed and Call of Duty
Answer #23
it depends on which need for speed game your talking about, it wont max out undercover but will play it fine on medium-high and no AA. Also depends on your resolution. cod4 should be able to play maced out.
Answer #24
Just buy a 9600gso then. It doesn’t use a ton of power (your psu is ok) and isn’t so high end that your xps 410 will bottleneck it. It doesn’t overheat like crazy either so again your case is ok. It is also a dual slot cooler card so cooling is not an issue either.
It’ll play at medium settings the games you want for now.
There is a factory recertified one at newegg for $59.99 below:

Dells are actually pretty easy to open and swap out a graphics card – done it about 3-4 times already for a coupla friends. Processor and everything else is a pain though…
Save the rest of your cash for after Xmas when you are ready to jump to a higher power system for cheaper.

remember the limitations of the case. A pc with a cheap Generic case wont cut it even with the side panel off
