You need a tv licence now if you connect to the internet
so even if you don`t have a tv the greedy f*****s still want money off you so dont worry.
Answer #4
You don’t need a licence just because you connect to the internet (not yet anyway) and it is quite possible to avoid a licence lawfully (e.g detuning TV, not watching live broadcasts) even though there is an inbuilt prejudice by TVL that assumes that you are breaking the law by not paying because so many people do pay (they work on commission and try to sell you a licence)
At the moment you are only required to buy a ‘tv licence’ (unfair tax) if you have installed or are using any equipment for the purpose of watching live broadcasts. Watching live broadcasts using the internet without a licence is currently against the law FYI. There is no easy way for BBC to find out you are doing this unless you admit to one of their enforcement people (Capita operating under the banner of ‘TV licensing’) when they phone/write/come to your home and/or you let them in to snoop. There is no legal obligation to comply with any ‘licensing officials’ up until the point they get a warrant, and the only realistic way of them getting one is to provide some evidence to a magistrate that they reasonably suspect that you are breaking the law (usually they get this by looking through your windows/seeing the glow of a TV/being let inside the home after bluffing their way in) So feel free to decline their questions and close the door in their faces. People who rent or sell TV receiver (defined very broadly but roughly it is any equipment that can be installed or used to receive a live broadcast) are required to inform TV licensing within 28 days of your details. That is why when you buy such equipment they always ask for your info. It goes into TVL databases and they cross reference the addresses of people who have bought licences with those who haven’t. At the moment there is no requirement to report the details of people buying computers or who have internet connections so just having these things won’t be enough to get you on their database.
