Avi split into episodes on a mac

Okay my problem is i have recently copied a few of my dvds to avi format so that i can add them too my ps3, but it has become on big avi file which i would like to split into separate “episode” format is there any free way to do this for a mac….
I dont have quicktime pro and i have checked google pretty fluently and it just keeps throwing me to payware’s which is annoying.
