audio not working on headset

I recently had to download new audio drivers for my speakers to get Prototype’s audio to work properly (which worked) but now whenever I plug in my headset, no sound comes out of it. How can I make it so when I plug in my headset, sound comes through it and when I take it out, sound comes through the speakers.
My computer can detect the headset but it just doesn’t allow audio to be used through it.

Are you sure the headset is not broken? Have you tested it with another computer.

it does work cause I can hear my friend through skype just not anything else. And i have tried it on my laptop and it works perfect.
