Apple TV Question

At the moment, I download Movies… play them on my iMac via VLC Player.. drag them over to my TV which is connected to my iMac via HDMI/Mini Displayport, and then when I make the Player full screen on my TV…. my iMac screen goes black, PERFECT, so it isnt a distraction from the TV
BUT
To watch my Movies, I have to use my Xbox HDMI Cable and disconnect it and drag the cable around my Unit to play into my iMac, abit annoying when its usually every night, when the film goes off I have to drag it all back around etc
ANYWAY
I was thinking of the Apple TVs as I know you can use AirPlay to display whatever is on your iMac or iDevice onto your TV, but if I use the Apple TV to watch my Movies, if I make the VLC Player full screen, is there any way that it’ll play on my TV but I can still make my iMac screen black? as I dont want the film playing on both my iMac and TV, if you know what I mean?
I dont know about the Apple TVs, basically….
dislaying content from my iMac onto the TV but being able to make the iMac screen black when viewing VLC player full screen on the TV….

Why don’t you just spend a little money on a media player. I use the sumvision, great little thing!

Why not get a HDMI switch?, they are cheap enough.
