anyone suggest me a capture card?

I just got this pinnacle one and the software is pointless when i use the software and start recording it lags like hell then just freezes the screen all together but you still hear the audio, seems like somethings having a problem rendering the video as it records or something like that.
its the pinnacle usb-510 i updated the driver to 4.0.0.0 or something like that but im not completely sure if thats the newest driver, although i dont know if thats got to do with the problem im having. i tried using sony vegas to record and it just kept telling me cannot open capture please make sure the device is not in use.
anyone had this kind of experience or suggestions? its frustrating the hell out of me i feel like ive tried everything.
i have windows 7 ultimate 32x and windows xp sp3 on the disc that i have it says its for sp2 and windows vista, but it should still work with sp3 yeah?

The Canopus ADVC-50 is a good capture card. Kinda old but i’ll bet their’ll be better ones out their somewhere
