42″ Hitachi LED What do you think?

November 11th, 2022

This weekend I bought the Hitachi 42″ LED LCD Ultravision HDTV LE42S704 for $748. What do you think about the TV and the price? Anything better choice for the price? Also I cannot find the contrast ratio on this TV anywhere in the user manual or online even on Hitachi’s website. All it says is high contrast ratio, but that is all relative, I’ve seen some new sets with a 4,000,000:1. Can anyone find the ratio?

Yea I’ve seen some of the LCD’s they had going for sale. I’m a big believer of Sony’s LCD’s, they are amazing right out of the box. We have one from about 3-4 years ago and it still out performs some of the other brands I see today. Anyways there is a Sony 40″ for the $549 price point that I was looking at, but I just am not sure I if I want to part with this Hitachi. The LED TV is just so much thinner, lighter, and noticeably brighter than most CFL LCD’s. Nonetheless, I love Sony’s sound. I think they have the best built in (simulated) surround sound out of all TV’s.
The reason why I’m so undecided is that I thought the TV I got was going to be on black friday sale for $498. When I already bought it and went back with the receipt I found out it wasn’t. I didn’t really want to spend that much money. I was just caught way off guard and cannot make up my mind on keeping it or getting a less expensive Sony CFL LCD.

Samsung > Sony as far as LCDs go.

Really? My aunt and uncle have a newer Samsung and it still doesn’t look as good as our first generation LCD Sony. It could be that they haven’t tweaked the settings, but it just isn’t up to par at all. The picture on their Samsung is a mess.

SAMSUNG>all

dont be too fussy on contrast ratio. High numbers is jusr a selling point for the manufacturers. eg. you cant compare a sony tv’s contrast ratio with a samsung because they differ-
for examples sake a sony tv @ 1,000,000:1 contrast would be the same as samsung 4,000,000:1 contrast ratio. There is no universal standard. If it looks good to your eye then its good.

@, Hmmm. That’s interesting. I was wondering what the HUGE difference in contrast ratios was all about. I’m leaning towards keeping the TV. All the newer Sony’s that are at the $500 price point are just not that great. I guess all the manufacturers are just selling barebones TV’s so they can make the price point that people are willing to dish out.
About the Hitachi I have, I’ve read a bunch of reviews and it seems like the Hitachi LED TV I bought is sort of a comeback for Hitachi. They have been out of the US LCD TV market for a while because of higher prices, but I guess they got their stuff together because for $800 I don’t think you can beat this TV.
