16bit 48000hz vs 24 bit 96000hz

February 4th, 2020

Hey guys so i was having some issues with my Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio with sound popping. I changed the sample rate within windows 7 from 16bit 48000hz to 24 bit 96000hz. Can this cause any problems with video playback performance or are there any draw backs. Oh and changing the sample rate fixed the problem of popping sound.
Some help would be much appreciated.

24bit / 96khz is for insane quality Studio recordings Leave it at default for generic usage.
Answer #2
I get sound popping and distortion at standard quality. Hence i changed it. Oh and this is for playback not recording.
Answer #3
Ah I thought you meant the opposite, that it was popping with the higher settings. But if it fixed it, just leave it there.
Answer #4
What kind if performance problems can arise from the higher sample rate with video playback.. Any if you know ?
Answer #5
I don’t think it will affect playback, I guess it’s the format for recording. Playback will be the format the video is in. Usually 16bit 48khz or 44khz.

Since you have a discrete sound card, hardly any (if at all)
Answer #7
Some games have issues at higher same rates. For example Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas wouldn’t run when I have it at 24bit/192KHz.
