Help: My games won’t run on Vista Ultimate.

August 5th, 2016

Yesterday I downloaded the Windows Vista Ultimate and everything was ok, but now when I installed a few games (Gothic 3, Unreal Tournament 3) they won’t run when I try to run them.
I click the .exe like usual, when I want to play it and the loading picture pops up. (The Gothic 3 text for instance.)
After a few seconds, when I would normally enter the game the text disappears and I am where I was before, on my desktop.
Anybody with a solution how to fix this? Same problem with Unreal Tournament 3.

Answer #1
Try running them in compatibility mode – Right click the .exe > Compatibility > Run as XP

Did your games run on XP?
Post your PC spec, update to the newest drivers.

@Szimonz, I don’t have such an option called Compatibility when right clicking the .exe.

My PC spec : AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+@2,66GHz, 4GB RAM and nVidia GeForce 8800GT, all drivers are up to date.

You should stick to XP until vista releases SP1.

Also, Run the program as an administrator. It will stop all annoying permission requests when you try to connect to the internet, etc.

Probably because they weren’t even designed to be compatible with Vista, lol.

I can play COD4 and UT3, on my Vista x64 so they are compatible, BOEM your theory is out the window.
