Driver restoration help needed

August 7th, 2016

Hello there, I need some help restoring drivers in Windows XP. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can choose a folder for searching a driver in it and there is no necessity for having an inf file in that folder. Also you can search the subfolders.
Suppose I have a driver folder will all graphics drivers in a folder in D: of my HDD. from XP, I want to restore drivers from that folder. I can select that folder, but I need to select the INF file. Though it can search on a CD and all folders and subfolders in CD, is there any tool which will scan through subfolders in a folder and without need to choose the INF file. Check out the screenshot.

your checked “include this location …” in “choose your search …” dialog that might search subfolder of the folder you choose

Actually that thing requires you to select a folder with a inf file inside it. You can’t select a folder which doesn’t contain the inf file in it. Also Include subfolder doesn’t work in that case because you can go on by selecting the proper inf file only. Now in 99% of the cases where all graphics drivers are in a single folder, you can’t be sure to select particular inf file. Also I see that feature works perfectly with Windows Vista and Seven. I just gave a path of a folder and It found a driver in subfolder among several other inf files and installed it sucessfully. I tried so many driver tools to achieve that thing, but none of the tool ever gave me that simple option to install driver from a folder and subfolder without selecting the inf file. I guess you’re getting what I’m trying to say.
Thanks for the input though.

Just use Driver Genius and create a backup of all your drivers and merge it into an AutoInstaller. (These are all functions.)
Not only that, it can also download updates for your current drivers if they are available. This program works wonders for every driver problem to me.

I know that solution. But most of the PC which can’t even start XP due to some problems needs to be formatting. And that’s why I was searching for that solutions. Also without Ethernet card drivers, internet won’t work and no use of online drivers. I’m in need of some tool to install driver from a folder and subfolder without selecting the inf file.
Thanks for replying.

sounds like you have 2 workaround options
burn the drivers to a CD
or create an ISO and mount it and see if that will work as a CD (search all folders)
or
if you put the drivers on a USB drive is that included in the “Search removable media” option

Burning the drivers to a CD works perfectly for subfolders. Also currently I’m using that ISO option. I’m having that ISO on my USB, and I mount it with Virtual Clone drive. The problem is, size of ISO is 1.46 GB, so I can’t burn it to CD. Most of the PC’s don’t have DVD drives. Yes, I’m talking about ancient PC’s. The current workaround for driver installation is I just mount the all in one drivers ISO in my USB and install things. That driver CD can’t be split up in 2 CD’s as folders in it are random.
Well, so I was thinking about a solution and downloaded these driver packs from driverpacks.net.

All these drivers totals 691MB can be burned in a single CD. Also if I want to install LAN drivers, I can easily extract drivers from CD to HDD and the install drivers from that folder. But its not possible to select drivers. So its again a circle. So what I’m going to do now, is to extract these archives and burn them to 2 CD. Offcourse it will take more time to search drivers rather than searching in a single specific folder. But its the only workaround I guess. I have an option to put all drivers in folder in USB, but then again that will tell a hell lot of time to search and install drivers. Because I have 8GB USB and its full of other necessary softwares and things.
Thanks for keeping up with me.
