Video Converter to T-Mobile G1 Android 1.5 Cupcake

I Need a Video converter that will convert Avi or Mkv To a format that will play on my G1 Phone or a guide on how to do it.

What extension does your mobile play? for videos i mean

3gp i have tryed so far i think mpg-4 is also supported
