how do i move the boot manager to an other hdd?
January 23rd, 2020
Why would you wanna do that?
Over 95% of BIOS’s support booting
only from the primary (1st) partition of an HDD,Moving the boot loader
will just create unessasry complications,You won’t
be able to load your OS without using a 3rd party
boot manager (which still of course be on 1st)
just save yourself the headache.
Edit: Just to verify,Are you refering to different
HDDs or partitions?
my boot manager is in a drive and my windows 7 is installed on a different drive. how do i move the boot manager to my win 7 drive?
Dono if that’s actually possible but try:
start>run>msconfig>startup or boot(not where you see the start up programs)
Should look some like this:
Click check boot paths, that might fix it for you. In win xp the boot.ini file is stored on C:/(hidden ofc) try to see if you have one.
You may have something there ,I didn’t
even think about that because i was under the impression
the OP wanna move the bootloader Oh well
i guess it’s easy to misinterpret when the OP isn’t
being clear.

Well ya, but if he wants to move the bootloader I think he needs to move the whole MBR and I don’t think that’s possible, so I suggested something that might also work.
Either way I’ve got no idea how he managed to install the bootloader on another drive beside the one where the OS is installed, because when installing W7 you don’t get the option to choose where to install the bootloader(Unlike Linux)
P.S. W7 doesn’t have the option to check the bootpaths @ msconfig, like XP.
this is not what i am looking for, i dont want to edit my bootloader, i want to move it to a different hard drive.
my old hard drive has 2 partitions, i want to format that drive but unfortunately, the boot manager is on that partition (you know, the menu where you choose the OS you want to start)
i tested this by disconnecting that hard drive, it says bootmgr is not found.
Should be easy to do,Just disconnect your other hard drive and boot from your Win7 disc,It should
run a startup repair and make it bootable. (Do note however that only primary partitions
can be made bootable,So better check this first from start>run>diskmgmt.msc,If it’s not
primary then use acronis disk director to convert it) When all done you can reconnect the other HDD,Just set the
boot order accordingly in bios so it wont boot from it.
