Been given the worst laptop to “fix”

January 31st, 2020

Someone gave me a laptop to take a look at and said its got no protection, its slow and doesn’t pick up wifi very good. So I said yeah I’ll take a look at it.
Its got 3 user accounts, 2 are password protected. I know theres away around it but I think there gonna give me the passwords anyway. I shutdown the laptop and it didn’t shutdown for over an hour lol. Operating it is soooo slow to. Plus the whole keyboard is coming off, must have been dropped.
I really can’t be bothered with it. I hate dealing with multiple user accounts. So if I unistall something from one account will it unistall from the other two? What about defragging, virus/malware scans etc? will I have to do them on all 3 seperate user accounts?
If I get permission to just reinstall windows xp, will it automatically install the touchpad drivers etc. I don’t deal with laptops so not sure.
Thanks

No, defragging and virus scans will cover the entire computer. You’ll only have to do it on one account.
Yes, the laptop should have the touchpad drivers automatically installed.

Not really. The touchpad will work with basic mouse functionality, but will need the control software installed to be able to adjust touch sensitivity and other specific features. Best thing to do is go to the manufacturer’s website and download all the drivers for the laptop before getting started.
