Can’t fall asleep – need advice

Well – it’s now holiday here (2 months without school for me) and i’m having trouble falling asleep – every night i can stay awake for 2-3 hours from the moment i get into bed. so i need some advice – i don’t drink coffee or cola at all, i don’t do something that gets my heart work before i go to sleep, i try not to think a lot when i’m trying to fall asleep…
please tell me everything you know Thank you very much! every reply will be very helpful! i’m sure im not the only one with this ‘problem’

U could try stop using ur PC like an hour or 2 before u go to sleep..
And go cycling or running or something like that during the day…

^ lol please be serious – when i’m in the bed my mind just starts thinking a lot about things and about all sorts of stuff that i saw during the day – even though none of them is very important lol… so i try to shut up myself many times during the night, and everytime i do it i get bored after a few minutes and start thinking again O.o lol you’ll think im crazy but im serious

I agree with the first post. Go for a run or do something energetic. Sometimes when i can’t get to sleep i watch an episode of southpark or family guy (or whatever i have on my ipod that i havent already seen really) and lie down in bed watching it and i find i get extremely tired by about 20 minutes.
Also try listening to some nice trance Works wonders for me as well!
Another idea that i occasionally do is if i have trouble get up splash some water on your face have a drink and go back to bed. I don’t know how this works but it seems to do the job for me sometimes if i am really having trouble lol
Anyway just some suggestions.

Go see the doctor and get it checked out.
Apart from that I agree with the good workout idea to get you a bit tired and to get rid of some energy.

I have trouble sleeping, what I find works for me is having a fan on at the end of my bed just blowing away on a gentle setting, have it moving aswell. May help, may not. Also it could be to do with your daily routine, if you’ve been off school for 2 months and just sitting in front of the telly and PC all day and doing nothing active that will affect your sleep. I’m not saying thats what you do but if it is get out and about in the fresh air with your pals, have some fun and that will tire you out.. Thats what your Summer Break is all about

well a big part of the day im near the tv or computer, but almost every night i go out with my friends somewhere and when i get back it still happens… btw im very hyperactive in the hours after midnight

well when i try to get to sleep i just lay there and think about “blank”. It works for me since my brain gets bored and eventually goes to sleep. Also try watching a movie that bores youe extremely not one you just dont like. So do that in the late hours on an mp4, ipod, portable dvd, laptop or even a pc/tv. THis helps you get to sleep also

My advice: Just do some funny stuff. If I do funny stuff my mind is entertaining my body. and otherwise. Just don’t think on not getting asleep. Or don’t think on that you don’t may think about things. Weird explanation but brains are weird too

I have a mild insomia but managed to cope with it all is well now.
First get a lot of sun, not for your skin but for your eyes. Get out during the day a hormone will build up that is supposed to prepare you for a good night sleep.
Drink warm milk before you prepare to sleep.
What a poster above was talking about is white noise. A little low frequency hum will induce sleepin Like teh sound of an electric fan at low speed or the small sound of a vibrating aircon motor.
One more thing, I found out that taking in one multivitamin pill at night will make me really sleepy.

About that. Taking a medicine before sleep everyday makes it a habit. Doing that is not good because benadryll is a antihistamine. If you have allergy problems you should be taking a prescription pill from your doctor, not over the counter. I agree it makes you sleepy, but in the long run it is not a good habit.

do an orderly review of the day, working backwards, finalizing each segment, like next time I’ll do this or won’t try that again
then think about your favorite things
DON’T think about not being able to sleep, think how great it is to be awake and spending time with yourself

well im not going to even think of taking pills, and sleeping is not so important to me now because it’s holiday. so even if i fall asleep at 3 or 4 am i will stay asleep untill 1 or 2 pm.
just thought there is some fast way because it’s very weird. so far i’m watching tv, but since my tv doesn’t have a timer or something then i need to be awake to turn it off some time otherwise it wil lstay open all night lon
