BIOS Flashig

September 7th, 2013

I have a corrupted or virus infected bios. Bios screen is distorted at boot and can’t load windows normally. I have tried restoring system but doesn’t help; still the same. Computer manufacturer does not offer Bios updates for my model, so I downloaded something close. I go into DOS mode and use ADWFLASHER, but computer will not allow flashing because program files do not match my system. Is there something I can do to bypass this check? or another way to fix it? Thanks for helping.
Specs:
HP m8000 PC
M2N68-LA Motherboard
Bios phoenix award 5.09
Downloaded Bios:904,1001 from HP site, 513 from similar motherboard from the net.

There are hacked bioses. Are you sure your using a genuine bios?
Have you tried taking your bios battery out and seeing if the bios will go back to defaults.

Bios contains software code thus it can be hacked or infected by a virus.
Taking the battery only removes bios memory, does not affect bios code.
Only way to fix a bios is to flash it(resetting code), or to replace the bios chip.
Thanks for trying to help though.

sounds like it could be a ram issue. have you tried reseating the dimms? and try boot with a single stick to see if one may be faulty.
run memtest if you can.

Tried what edwoodweb suggested? If nothing works, then you should replace the chip. Or if you find a user using the same type you could hot flash it.

I have tried every possible way to flash the bios: all available flashing tools(plash, awdflasher, uniflash, which claims to force flash any bios, and wincrisis, which restores original bios, and nothing has worked. I have tried the HP update, but get error and won’t update. Apparently, bios checksums upadate and will not update if new bios is incompatible. I have tried clearing CMOS memory and force flash bios with force command, even uniflash will not work( which claims to force flash any bios).
If anyone has a suggestion or possible solution I would appreciate any suggestions.
But, I think I am going to replace motherboard. Thanks for the suggestions.
I found an excellent tutorial on how to recover BIOS, unfortunately did not work for me. I am posting link for future reference http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/07/30/hp-suggests-400-repa.html
