My Linksys router frequently stops wireless broadcasting

My Linksys WRT54GC (version2) model router frequently stops wireless broadcasting and I have to unplug and replug the power cable to connect again. After some time, it again suddenly stops wireless broadcast until it’s repowered.
I’ve been having this problem for over 2 weeks now and tried the latest firmware upgrade and resetted the router for countless times but couldn’t solve the problem. Anyone, has experience in this issue, has any reccomendation ?

Is your router secured with WPA/WPA2?
Try changing the channel,Also if you don’t
get the full 5 bars (signal) then gradually
increase the transmit power til you do.

thank you for quick reply. I’ve tried both wep wpa wpa2 and non-secure
I’ve also tried changing the channels 1 – 6 and 11
The router is very close i have full transmit power.
Any other ideas?

I use 2 laptops with this router. One dell and one samsung with differrent OS and hardware configuration. The problem occurs with both of them. The thing is I’m %100 sure that it’s the router that stops broadcasting because one of the flashing light that indicate wireless turns off when the problem occurs.

Okay then,I think it’s time you’ll get a new router (or replace it
if under warranty) you already tried everything as far as i can see.

Not doable,You could however use ethernet instead (You’ll probably
need an extra long cable for your other laptop tho)

How old is it?
Might be a time to replace it as its an pretty old model. Some routers appear to work but often its a time to replace as it just won’t function normally at times.

I’ve had it for 3 years but wasn’t using it for a long time.

3 years is good enough, my router died within 1 year.
The thing is with routers is that they are usually running 24/7, so they take all electrical surges and stuff.

Might be overheating and shutting down, try to use opensource like http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index
check to see if your router is supported
