new hdd failed

so i bought 1 tb WD external elements hdd the other day over night i transfered 550 gigs of videos to it after it was done i shut down my laptop and unplugged my external i go to plug it in and it doesnt start up no lights flash disk doesnt spin pretty much a doorstop now ive tried other power cords other outlets b ut it wont power up
what im getting at is if i return it with all my movies on it will that be a problem with legality?

There won’t be a problem because they won’t be checking through your private data and if they do, they’ll assume it’s legally bought movies or what have you.

they usualy check if it works then give you a new one i had over 450gb of illegally downloaded stuff so long as its not CP your safe they dont care

They’re not allowed to check your files whatever they are. Just place your files in a folder and name it “Private” IF they have the guts to open that file and open their mouth about it, you will have the advantage to sue them for breaking your privacy as clear as you made it and win some good $$ so don’t worry mate.

You may be lucky and it’s just the power supply unit with it that is faulty..Do the power leds on the power unit and external hard drive come on? …. take it all back to the store for them to check..
