Splitting HardDrive into 2 partitions

I’m going and buy my laptop today and I want to know if vista home premium can split the HardDrive into 2 different partitions.
1-For OS
2-Storage files
The reason for is that you never know if vista crashes and I need to reinstall. Also please dont post and say just get an external HD….because I will be using up to my last $ on this laptop and I will buy one later.
For now thats all I need to know,If and how to split the HD.

Acronis Disk Director Suite….is your best friend..

But will that affect any of vista’s files or anything? As in like transfer system files into the new one?

No it won’t..Just resize the main partition..you end up with a partition and free space…create a second partition with the free space…

You can do this on Vista Installation, it is very easy and won’t affect nothing

I will Pm because the laptop comes preinstalled with vista and no cd’s I bought the laptop already but the people are making backup disks and Ill pick up everything tomorrow
