I had same doubts, but i ended up ordering Asus wl-500gp v2. Its DD-WRT compatible, and its ok. If you dont need N.

If your cable connection is coming into a laptop… then it is easy to turn that laptop into a wireless router, so you can connect with another laptop fron your second floor…
That way you’ll save money and the result would be excellent .. me myself am using this kind of solution …

I’m running the following ones…..and have had no problems with any of them.
A pack of untrained monkeys could configure them and lock them down….Cisco is the Best on the market, with the best support. (and they make all the high end routers/switches that your ISP is currently using).
Cisco
WRK54G – Wireless G
BEFSX41 – Firewall Router
EFAH16W – Workgroup Hub

You’ve almost got yourself set up as a NAT Server…..finish the steps and you’ll like it even more.

Ive been rocking a Netgear for 3 years, and for 2 years before that it was used by my grandad. Not dead yet, perfect coverage – cant go wrong.
