[solved] Overclocked 8400GS freezes Flight Simulator X

July 26th, 2016

nVidia 8400GS
Default Clock Settings
Core – 459 MHz
Shader – 918 MHz
Memory – 400 MHz
Total – 1777 Mhz
Current Maximum Clock Settings
Core – 565 MHz = 23.09% increase
Shader – 1380 MHz = 50.33% increase
Memory – 500 MHz = 25% increase
Total – 2445 Mhz = 37.59% increase
When I go into a flight on Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition With Acceleration Add-on the game freezes, ususally between 0 and 30 seconds of entering the flight.
I run XP Pro SP3 with 2GB RAM and Intel E6500 Processor (2×2.33Ghz stock cores)
Anyone got any ideas why the game freezes?

Answer #1
restore the video to stock settings, you may have chosen a bad overclock setting which will still display but have problems with intense stuff or games
Answer #2
yeah, overclocking will do that. you overclock too far, things overheat and shut down to prevent damage
Answer #3
is the card powerful enough? to my knowledge FSX needs a bit of beef behind it that the 8400 series can’t deliver..
Answer #4
thanks for your suggestions
the 8400GS worked before, 39FPS on custom settings (around medium)
i restored to basic settings, it still froze so i did a repair install and it works okay on both stock and overclock settings. idle and peak temperatures are the same (62 and 85 degrees celsuis respectively)
sorry to bother you
thank you for your help
