How to limit a program from grabbing bandwidth

Hey guys, i have good internet speeds but when i use idm i get low speeds when downloading.i checked in the resource monitor and realized my avast anti virus is grabbing two-thirds my internet speeds…is there a way in to reduce that leech of an anti virus? if windows has its own way pliz tell me.
if there is also a software for that it would really help…thank you

Disable (for 5 minutes say..)the antivirus when using IDM incase.

Why disable it? What he needs is a better virus scanner, one that does NOT affect download speed AT ALL, unless the Avast developers have a solution he doesn’t know of. You should never continue to use a virus scanner that affects download speed, because I can guarantee you that it will also affect the speed in other areas like browsing, watching online videos, muti-player, E-mail, etc.

Its more then likely to be scanning the bandwidth not using it
