Yeah, do what Threeothree requested. Just a few General tips:
best cards out are NVidia GTX series (GTX295 being the best)
Thoes can cost up to 500 to 550 dollars (USD)… Quite expensive.
If you want a good card, there are also the 9800GT’s, and the 8800GT’s by Nvidia. Both are great cards, 98 being a bit better. Don’t just go and buy one, you have to make sure of quite a few things.. reply back with your current specs first… (Makesure you include your current PSU as well)

what about the red team?
the radeon 4870 x2 is good as the gtx 295, and the radeon is cheaper =]
ati midranges are the HD 4770, 4850, and 4870
any card (Nvidia or ATI) above 80 dollars will do you good for vista and css
Answer #4
Nvidia GTX 295
Answer #5
Budget and your system specs are what we need. Saying this or that one now wouldn’t help since you may not have the money or with your current specs the card may not be worth it.
Answer #6
Most ppl will say Nvidia coz its always been the leading Graphics team but you should check out ATI. The Radeon 4870 x2 is a KILLER card coz i have it but you need to make sure you have a few things. 1) you need to have a big PSU to make sure it has ample power. 2) You need to make sure the rest of your system is up-2-date with a decent processor (preferably quad-core) and good RAM and a good motherboard. Just getting the best Graphics card on the market wont gaurantee you perfect performance…you need everything good.

when buying something new for a computer, remember to buy things that compliment each other, ive seen people who saw that their computer was going slow when playing games, upgraded their card, didn’t realise that their processor wasn’t gonna cut it well and ended up with a very expensive card that did little to no good because it was being bogged down

atm AMD/ATI doesn’t has anything that can beat the GTX285 or GTX295 for power.
however, you do need to realise that these cards cost a LOT & can be considered ‘overkill’ for games like css & L4D due to other factors(for example, the home & kitchen lcd screen won’t be able to fully use those cards), so the ati & lower end nvidia cards (like the gtx260) will be plenty for what you need, & let that be where the price comes into calculation.
so generally:
nvidia: best performance & drivers, you might pay a ‘bit’ more
ati: generally better price/performance, doesn’t always has good drivers

Only thing i can think of that is a bad thing about ATI cards are the drivers. There always seems to be issues with drivers where as the Nvidia cards are more stable. I cant wait until ATI releases the driver to switch on the extra feature on that radeon 4870 x2 (cant remember what its called but it will make the card run a lot better for when newer more demanding games come out).

Mobo and cpu would be nice. Anyway for that price range you can get ( from the most expensive and fastest one to the otherway round) As you can see I’m an ATI person most of the time.
HD 4890,HD 4870, HD4850-GTX 260, HD4770-9800GTX+.
