Why is Windows 7 still so laggy on my laptop?

July 25th, 2016

I have a very recent computer (mid 2009) that has pretty good specs. But when I installed Win 7 and ever since, a couple months ago, things have been slower, laggy. Internet is choppy and laggy.
I’ve updated all possible drivers. So I just don’t get it.

Answer #1
Internet being slow has absolutely nothing to do with your OS (or hardware, for that matter).
Answer #2
Can you give the specs?
Answer #3
Internet being slow has absolutely nothing to do with your OS (or hardware, for that matter).
I didn’t say it was slow, I said it was laggy and choppy. Like pages that normally load and scroll are very choppy.. Say Wikipedia… an article (already loaded), when I try to scroll it will be very choppy or pause for a moment
Answer #4
need more info, such as specs.
also run a speedtest at www.speedtest.net
Answer #5
Maybe your display driver is missing.
Answer #6
choppiness in general PC performance can be many things. i know it’s a step ahead of all problems, but i recommend running a full virus scan in safe mode. also depends on your PC specs.. but running W7 doesn’t take much… 1.5GBs most.
if you pirated your W7 it could also just be a bad download.
Answer #7
Maybe your display driver is missing.
I've updated all possible drivers. So I just don't get it.
Is your web browser loaded with addons or something by chance?
Answer #8
eh, before you go running a virus scan just yet…. do me a favor and Google Hijackthis. download it & then run the scan… once that’s done, paste the log here so i can check it over for any malicious processes.
Answer #9
It’s definitely not a virus/spyware. This has been going on since day one and my computer is clean.
Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4ghz
4GB of ram
It’s a Dell Studio 15
it’s not internet speed that’s a problem. I have plenty of speed. It’s just that browsing itself is laggy. things are so so choppy. I’ve updated every ddriver I could think of.
Answer #10
since day one? it definitely sounds like an OS problem.. did you download a pirated copy?
when you’re browsing and the choppiness starts… open up task manager and check your CPU usage.. what’s the highest it goes?

since day one? it definitely sounds like an OS problem.. did you download a pirated copy?
when you're browsing and the choppiness starts... open up task manager and check your CPU usage.. what's the highest it goes?

Well that’s what I was wondering.. I bought Win 7 XP Pro through some digital download service (it was all legit and through Microsoft). Could it just be the copy of Win 7?
Luckily I ordered the backup disc. Maybe if I reinstall fresh with the backup copy from MS?
CPU usage has gone up very high.. 97 etc
Answer #13
log looks clean to me, only weird thing is you’re missing a lot of files in system root.. and i don’t believe i’ve seen that before.
edit – spiking to 97 just browsing the web is WAY too high. judging from your log, it looks like the OS you downloaded is a POS and you should re-vert back to XP for best performance again.
Answer #14
I was never on XP but when I was using Vista it was much cleaner, smoother, faster.
That is weird.
So I guess it’s probably the OS?
Well here’s hoping that the backup copy is better
Answer #15
it’s definitely the OS if you had good performance in Vista and bad in W7.
Answer #16
well ~love~
how could digitalriver give me such ~love~
stupid asses I should complain.
The disc they sent should be fine right? It looks like it’s from microsoft
Answer #17
yeah, it should be fine. if your performance is still the same after reformatting, it’s a hardware problem. but right now it doesn’t sound like that at all.
good luck.
Answer #18
Did you perform a clean install or an upgrade?
Answer #19
It’s an upgrade copy.. but what I did was make two (main) partitions. One for my old Vista installation (which I actually copied to a 2nd small partition in case I needed it) and then made a clean fresh partition for Win 7. So clean technically
Answer #20
What’s the best way to get drivers?
Should I just get the VIsta drivers?
Answer #21
Do a scan of you pc… and run tuneup utilties 2010 to optimize everything… cosider scanning your downloaded dvd image as their might be virsues on it… reverting back to xp isnt the problem… the problem lies within his dvd image
Answer #22
get through windows update… much faster
Answer #23
Is there a way to manually get them from windows update

Answer #24
Check for updates -> optionl/important updates -> check the drivers box.

Answer #29
It’s not just browsing..
but saying I’m browsing a website and I scroll down.. it’ll either just hang there for a second and then all of a sudden streak down, or it will scroll down but I get a ton of screen tearing.
Answer #30
Try a different browser.
