Red Alert 2 Fix

A mate of mine gave me a copy of Red Alert 2 a while ago to play before Red Alert 3 came out, but whenever I try to play a mission or skirmish, my units instantly all die automatically failing the mission.
I’ve heard its an anti-piracy issue, but have found no way of solving it.
Anyone got any ideas?
