Nvidia Gtx 670

Had this machine a year and it has not missed a beat , then all off a sudden I get a freeze in Arma 3 , then it flickers and then black screen , then an error saying display driver not responding .
Then I reboot and the machine boots up with a black screen but I can hear windows start , hard shut down 3 times before I get a desktop display again , a few times it would give the beep codes for no VGA detected .
Now with any game it will black screen within 5 minutes but have no problems in Photoshop or any other program Nothing was changed with this machine , no updates or new software , was good one day and black screens the next , I tried different latest drivers and it will still freeze and black screens in games .
Ive researched this for days and it seems thats it common with the 670 and points to a faulty card , so I thought I might go to ati 7970 , and searched google for Black screens on this card and it happens a lot with it also , then I dig more and its happening on many top end cards .
Is it just bad cards or there is more to it ?

Still covered by manufacturer warranty? Even if not still drop them an email see what they say
Check temps see if its overhearing, heatsink paste could have deteriorated easy fix.
Dust build up in the case? Causing a short.
PSU fault? Try another power cable to the GPU.
Try another PCI slot?
