Is my usb dead?
August 1st, 2016
Also the usb is shown as “hidden” and it would not let me format it. (Even through a number of formating tools)
Any suggestions anyone? on how to revive my usb?
maybe it caught a virus?
dont think so, i just use it for school projects and it stopped working really unexpectedly. I didnt do anything unusual with it.
... Now my computer (and every other that i tried) recognizes the usb but when i click to open it, it just says "Please insert a disk into Removable (I"
So you tried another usb memory and it still show you this message “Please insert a disk into Removable (I: )” ?

If its detecting it as a drive and giving it a letter it cant be dead but it could be corrupted try a chkdsk
Start > Run > chkdsk /f I:

It’s probably dud.
Have you tried a low level format, or the HP Format tool ?

If they don’t work, bin it and buy another.

i already tried the Hp tool and it didnt work. i just gave the low level format tool a try and it didnt recognize my usb. i guess it is dead
don’t rely on USB sticks, they are known for going bad quite often. expect them to fail. poor quality is the problem. I’d imagine if you could find one made in the USA, Canada, or Japan, they should last though…It's probably dud.

Try this > Right-click (My) Computer
click Manage
under the Storage tab choose Disk Management
right-click your problem drive
select Change Drive Letter and Paths
change the drive letter, and retry it

unfortunately it doesnt even show up under disk management, but thanks anyways
Do you have access to another pc? It could be a driver issue (i had a similar problem with a sandisk flashdrive that refused to show up). just see if it’ll show up in a different OS (linux live CD, Mac etc) or even a different windows install.
