Anyone know a good video converter?

Does anyone know of a good video converter for converting avi,mpegs etc to dvd so I can burn movies on to a single disc. I’ve tried a winavi which is fast but when playing movies back there is a noticeable stutter to the picture. Any suggestions?

I use to use the software WinAVI for Windows to convert videos it worked well, but after every conversion I had to reboot my PC.

I have been converting for a couple of years over a thousand movies tried different things but now only convertx to dvd for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
