Computer is running so slow

I have no idea why it is running slow. It is lagging a lot. I use Tune Up and run it all the time. Task manager is saying that firefox is taking up 577k memory. Any suggestions?

I have a XP Media Edition. I use it to download movies and apps here and there nothing serious.

are you making alot of background applications running? try look through task manager and see how many applications are using the CPU usage. (except system idle process can be ignored)

Do you perform the disk defragmenter and disk cleanup on the drive at least once a month? you have a good anti-virus/internet security system? 577k memory is low and won’t cause you any problem.

Another thing I read with XP is that you should reinstall the OS every now and then. I reinstall mine about every 6 months and every time I do it it feels like I just added 20 gigs of RAM lol.

I’d also suggest grabbing driver magician. It will show you what drivers do not come with windows and will make a self extracting file of them for you.

Also make sure you have the driver magician program on a disk too. It will automatically reinstall the drivers for you after you give your computer the “electronic enema”

run-> temp -> delete all
run-> %temp%->delete all

Sometimes it’s best to do a clean/fresh install of the OS . You can spend hours trying to figure out why it’s gone that way and you’re still at square one after all that time (wasted).

Reinstall a fresh copy.you computer will become fast.

Ok. I did the run>temp and deleted all files. One had 44 other only had 90. I have Kaspersky but I am not using it currently because I don’t like it. Im trying to find a good AV on here but it is quite difficult to find a AV without a trial resetter or working keys. I have Tune Up Utilities 2011 and it said that disk defrag is not needed at this time. As for applications in the background. I am not sure. I have a list not sure what is what though. Dell Dimension DIME521 2.00Ghz 1.00GB of RAM.
