A year ago someone told me about his set-up at home. It was a computer, running 24/7, downloading the newest series and movies.
It was software, not quite popular, that he explained to me, downloaded the movies directly from the servers from tv broadcasting channel. Buuuuuut I forgot the name of it. Can anyone help me out?

Unless he has explicit permission to distribute this media from the copyright holder, then that is considered .
Use one of the legal services, or just torrent.
Could it be Sick Beard? Basicly it does everything you explained in the OP, but instead of downloading directly from the broadcaster, it downloads through newsgroups and torrents.
