Understanding WoW

So before you all give hate or whatever you want to call it I’ll start by saying that I enjoy the game and the guides on the net don’t seem to cover what
I want to know So I feel that I’m just following someone else.
So I have the WOD pre-order and have a boosted 90, I have played other characters but never got that far. So the things I don’t “get” are:
– Gear (what is needed, e.g. if i have looted 496 gear but I loose say haste is it good or bad?)
– DPS rotation (atm I just button bash and hope that I kill the mob)
I could go on and on but the point is beginner guides go on about things such as the interface, what race and class means and how to level I haven’t found a single thing talking about gear etc.
I hope you understand this and give some helpful advice thanks.
