Watching Cable TV through Computer Monitor (US)
January 20th, 2020
I recently moved and want to try and watch cable TV through a computer monitor. I have the cable service coming through a coaxial cord from the wall. I read that I need an adapter of some sort that I can plug the coaxial cable into, then the adapter into the monitor. I already have the cable TV service; just looking to set it up through my monitor. I do not have a cable box.
Has anyone done this? Thanks!
The only way I have done this so far is to hook my monitor up to the Sky Box via HDMI …. but hence you do not have a box, this will not work. Possibly you can get a cable <–> HDMI converter, but not sure bout this one either…
found the following online : http://www.instructables.com/id/Use-an-LCD-Monitor-as-a-TV-without-a-Computer/
, not sure of it helps. all the stuff I’ve been reading so far required a cable box, but then this is kinda standard in EMEA , not sure how the US work ?
You can’t watch cable without a cable box..
Most boxes today will have a minimum VGA connector…
I was thinking something like this: http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/
TV tuner apparently is what I need – but I do not know which would be best or what is reliable/works.
Hauppauge WinTV HVR-950Q Hybrid USB HDTV Tuner is good example.
about $90
