Computer slowdown

August 1st, 2016

My internet provider allows customers to download and use free of charge McAfee anti virus and firewall program.
It seemed that after I installed McAfee everything slowed down, IE takes more time to open and email takes a lot more time to download etc.
Could it be McAfee or is it something else going on?
I’m using windows 7 on an old Dell, I keep the computer clean by using Malwarebytes.
Is there something else I should be looking at or is anyone using McAfee having the same problems?
Thanks

Anytime you add an AV to your system, there will be a slow down when accessing files as the AV kicks in to check them out.
You should also only run ONE AV on your system with real-time checking. AV’s don’t necessarily play nice with one another, and even if they do, a file gets checked by each AV program when accessed, causing your system to be even slower.
Emails and internet will be slower if you have McAfee Total Protection as this version scans your emails and looks at a webpage before it is loaded.

Thanks
I have McAfee total protection and I am thinking about removing it, it slows down big time and it’s a pain.
I used Eset before with no problems.
Answer #3
Realistically, you would not need both malwarebytes and a total protection AV suite.
I would recommend that you remove McAfee altogether, and use something simple like MSE.

McAfee is like Norton ……… Bloatware ……… Uninstall it and try Avast free or similar.

Thanks,
I uninstalled McAfee and installed Eset.
Now I have no problem, couldn’t believe how McAfee slowed everything down to a crawl.
