Format a write protected pendrive [All known methods failed so far]

August 6th, 2016

Hi,
Pendrive size: 8gb
Manufacture: Sandisk
So far I have done this much

2. Click “Start” on the taskbar to open “Run” and type in “regedit”.
3. Hit “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” to expand “System”.
4. Find “Current Control Set” in “System” list to click “Control”.
5. Check whether there is a key named “Storage Device Policies” to change the digit in the “DWORD value” box into "0" and press “OK”.
But, if you cannot find the key named “Storage Device Policies”, you are supposed to create a one: right click “Control” to create a new key and name it as “Storage Device Policies”=> right click this new key to open “DWORD Value” and name it as “write protect”=> Double click it to change number.

It did not work!!!
used software like musbfixer. It didnt work
Can anyone please help?

Answer #1
I’m afraid the pen could be defective..That’s normally the error you get..
When it can’t write to the pen it throws a write protect or format error..
Answer #2
Some of them have a physical switch, first see if it isn’t set to “locked” position. Then you could try by using hp format tool or “dd” , a powerful tool existing in linux distros, use a live USB stick and search the web for a tutorial to use it.
