CPU Ratio
March 2nd, 2014
My Problem:
My brand new i7 2600k will not get off its idol clock of 1600mhz because for some reason the multiplier is stuck at 16.
I have an Asus P9Z68-V Pro MoBo and i have just 20mins ago updated it to the latest bios version, which according to the notes is supposed to fix this.

Appreciate any help. I have been googleing for a few days now and tried a whole host of solutions from disabling intel speed step and other throttle control options. I have also rest the cmos. The only thing i have not done is remove the bios battery. Asus AI Suite II auto tunes fine and says that it has OCed to 4.4Ghz or there abouts however CPUz and any other tool i have tried have recorded no change in the multiplier at all. Oh and all this is under full load with Prime 95 (lol im not that dumb).
Anyway looking forward to getting this fixed. It is not pressing because it has 4 cores and 8 threads it has no problems keeping up however i did not pay $315AUD for a cpu to run its lowest setting. Like buying a V8 because you want to drive round economically. WTF!
RMA the board.
Think the board is faulty?
Well i wouldn’t keep a board that has that kind off bug from day 1.
It’s good enough grounds to RMA.
send the board back i would
CPU-Z doesn’t show the higher speed because it jsut get the idle one. Use AIDA64 and run benchmarks with it, you should see the higher mhz value there. Same for me, CPU-Z shows 1600mhz, but through AIDA64, I see 4300mhz
Im not sure you read my topic right, i ran Prim 95, i also ran your tool with no change, it is somehow stuck on a ratio of 16
EDIT:
I have also submitted a form to Asus, do you normally RMA through the distributor or the manufacturer?

Depends who you bought it from.

The retailer will usually offer a return to base period that might be as long as the warranty. but you can also deal directly with asus.
try changing the multi in the bios
have you tried clearing cmos?
I’ve seen such posts on forums before (not of the same CPU) but most ended up RMAing the CPU instead of the motherboard.
Last night after the bios update i did a full cmos reset using to onboard jumper for about 20 secs or so. Issue persists, after asus replies i will look into RMAing the board.
