[Solved] Upgrading My Graphics Card
November 8th, 2013
That’s why I need your help to suggest me a good GFX for me to upgrade as games nowadays are very demanding….
here my pc specs right now (well, quite an old computer I guess):
Motherboard
Gigabyte EP31-DS3L (allow processors in the LGA 775 socket)
Processor
Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo E5200 (2.50ghz x 2)
RAM
4GB DDR2
GFX
ATi Radeon HD 4670 (512mb 128bit)
Power Supply
Cooler Master 460W
as said by jock_juffalo
here are some other info
I’m from Malaysia and I have around RM400 and that is around $130 USD, but around $150 USD would still be okay..
I don’t have much money right now, but I think you guys could suggest a GFX that meet my budget, and another GFX that would fit into my pc even though it is far away from my budget…
Resolution : 1280×1024 (not widescreen )
And also, do I need to upgrade my PSU in case I need to upgrade my GFX?
If possible, I would like to upgrade my processors too. As the motherboard is also quite old, I would like you guys to suggest me the best processors for my motherboard (the intel i3, i5, i7 series would be impossible of course)
well, I hope you guys can help me.
thank you
It would help if you gave the following info.
1:how much cash you have to spend and in what country.
2: resolution you game at.

can you suggest some?
6870 if you can manage to get one or a 6850.
You might need a power supply upgrade or you can just burn out your current one (sarcasm) with the video card and see how that goes.
The CPU upgrade is pretty much a dead end, unless you can find a second hand LGA 775 from whatever you can source in your state.
You’ve got the motherboard model, see what CPU’s it supports via its website.

thanks for the suggestion
I’ve take a look at both card and it seems that HD6850 looks ok, except that I have to increase my money for that.
HD6870 is way too expensive for my budget..
any other suggestions guys?
If that is the case, you could try a 6770 or 5770 which is really the same thing.
It will depend on what games you play, if you don’t play any games at all – don’t need any upgrade.

I play a lot of games.. that’s why I want to buy a new GFX..
I can see that the main different between HD6850 and HD6770 is the memory interface bus (bit)
with 6850 is 256 and 6770 is 128
can you tell me actually what is the meaning of this so called “memory interface bus” as I’ve already googled them but I can’t understand them pretty well..
The memory interface bus is how much data one pass-through can put out, so a 6770 will take twice as much time as it to match a 256bit.
But those figures are somewhat meaningless to your average joe, so we let benchmarks of the same game under different graphics cards to see how well each card does.

well, thanks a lot for the info..
I guess I’ll take Ati HD 5770 as it meet my budget..
thank you all for the suggestions
Yep and it doesn’t get that much bottleneck from the rest of your hardware.
You can even keep your power supply (although its recommended to change as well).
The best part of the 5770 is that its cheap as chips.
My three year power supply cycle, read about capacitors.
I’d save up one more $150 and upgrade the CPU/memory/motherboard.
