XP drivers in Windows 7

August 25th, 2013

I have XP in a desktop. Now I want to install Windows 7 in it and remove the XP OS. I have got the drivers for the XP like Display Driver, Audio Driver, LAN Driver etc. by using Driver Backup Software. Now if I install WIndows 7 after a format, will those backed-up drivers work in Windows 7??
I mean do I need different drivers for Windows 7 or will the same as for XP work in it too??
If I need differentt drivers, how to obtain them? I dont know the model of the desktop. Just that it is Dell. The model number tag was removed by my toddler sister.

Windows XP drivers will not work with Windows 7..Vista maybe..
Head to your motherboard manufacturer website and check if the have any Windows 7 drivers..
Answer #2
hard to say what drivers you need till you install 7
if it’s a branded PC go to it’s support website and see if they have vista/7 drivers for it as lionden is correct, XP drivers won’t work
Answer #3
Windows 7 should install all drivers – it installed on my friends 8 years old desktop – the best way is if some driver is not installed to use Driver Genius to search……
EDIT: Maybe you are right – but it looks like that friend have customize his Windows 7 installation.
But, as i said – IF some drivers doesn’t install Driver Genius is right thing to find missing drivers.

XP drivers are only compatible with 2K and cannot be used with Win7,You should get the following tool:
http://www.mediafire.com/?cmd5ty9iv1ng1re
Run it and provide the output,Then I’ll be able to find you the drivers you need.
Also,Do specify whether your gonna use the 32 or 64 bit version of Win7.

You are mistaken,Each windows edition contains a limited set of integrated drivers,It was just luck,That and the fact
that it’s real old.

Its a 32-bit machine. The brand is Dell but I dont know the model name or number because the tag was removed by my sister. I dont know if it is Optiplex or Vostro or something else. So if I install Windows 7 and then use Driver Genius, it will automatically tell me if I dont have some drivers installed? Because if that works, then my problem will be solved and I can install any OS on any machine without driver worries….
Answer #6
By the way, I just heard from a friend that if I install Windows 7 and dont have its drivers, I should just run Windows Update and the drivers will download automatically. Is that true? Sounds fake to me.
And hey, there are so many AIOs titled Drivers for Windows7, Drivers for Windows XP etc. So if I download one of those, will it be helpful? Can I do some automatic search for respective drivers to be installed from the CD?

As far as i have found some drivers from XP will work fine on Seven but the only one really necesary was video S3/VIA Chrome or Unichrome wich is not available on Seven for some old mainboards.
On the other side, when you install Seven the only thing you need with a working driver is the LAN card, once you get an internet conection Windows Update will find every driver and isntall it flawlessly, except for thos not available for Seven.
Most lan cards work out of the box on Seven.
