Xbox wont play games

July 28th, 2013

My mate is selling a old xbox that works perfectly but it doesnt play games. I was wondering if this kind of problem is easily solvable by chaning the dvd drive?

The DVD drive on the old model had issues with scratching discs. I made the mistake of buying a refurbished Xbox 360 that had problems reading discs and then it eventually got the RROD. The old Xbox 360 is the one that had the Falcon chip which is the model that experienced a lot of RROD issues. Do you plan on buying the console from him and if so how much? If your going to buy an Xbox 360 your better off buying the new slim Xbox 360. It is less prone to the RROD and it has a better DVD drive.

I’ll be buying the xbox for £15 if its fixable and its a arcade that was bought in 2010.

Forget the old model Xbox 360. Plus you will need to buy a HDD for it. Even if you bough the slim Xbox 360 with the 4 GB storage it will cost $200 but 4 GB is nowhere near sufficient and you’ll eventually need to buy a new HDD which costs around $150. A slim Xbox 360 costs only $300 which is what I paid for my PS3 and the console will come with a pretty decent sized HDD. Since the Xbox he is selling needs fixing you’ll likely run across various issues down the road. I bought mine refurbished at the time and I paid the price for it. Don’t do the same and throw your money away.

I don’t need to buy a HDD because i have plenty spare. Plus the xbox works perfectly fine, its just that the disks do not run.

That’s why i said: I had the same issue with DVD drive on the old model. The discs didn’t run and I eventually got a RROD. Best of luck!

surely you could try to JTAG it ?

try rotating the 2 gold “screws” just above the white bar
don’t need much, just move them a lil with a pair of pliers
and BE GENTILE
Answer #9
Thanks for the methods of fixing it, i might as well have a try of fixing it.
Answer #10
Just replace the laser, it’s a simple fix and will run you about $20.00 US.If you buy a new drive you will have to extract the key from old drive and then flash it into the new one.
I do about 2 or 3 a week and unless old drive has mechanical pr0blems it the best option, just make sure you order the correct laser
I’ve had good luck with GameGear-Outlet
Luck to you
