Windows Defender VS 3rd Party Antivirus

I am going to install windows 8.1 on my laptop. I am old user of kaspersky, bitdefender, avaira. But this time I am interested to know about performance of windows defender that comes with windows 8.1. According to your experiences, what would you say about windows defender. Should I go for it to get full security?

Its just antivirus, You should use a full Endpoint security suite not just antivirus.

windows’ defender is used as baseline to evaluate other suites. it stays at the bottom and microsoft already admitted that it is not enough as a standalone product but a supplementary one to other products. so if you ask protection rating of windows defender vs kaspersky or bitdefender at dangerous environment , they are beyond comparison but windows defender will also do well if you dont dwell much in uncommon places by installing known digitally signed products and visiting known popular sites.
