Wifi speed help

September 4th, 2017

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me. I have 152mb Virgin Media broadband, when connected via ethernet cable I get 160mbps speed. Which is great. But my laptop is upstairs and the router downstairs, so it’s impossible. I cant have a wire going from upstairs to downstairs. When connected to wifi via my lapop my speed maxes out at say 45 – 50mbps. Is there anyway possible I can get that 160mbps speed? I’ve heard about some plugs you can get and then plug ethernet cable in which acts as if its in your router? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That’s just the way it is..Yes Wifi can be slower..
I know where you coming from..I’m with Virgin..Never do big downloads on my Laptop..
My God..Some people can only dream of 50mbps connection..
No idea if there is any device out there that can boost the Wifi..
Answer #2
Of course there is..
It’s called AP (Access Point)
Basically, a router configured to boost signal in simple words..

Ring them up about this problem…say im not getting the speeds advertised, they’ll run a speed check (through ethernet only) and they’ll try to figure out where the problem is. They might need access to your laptop through some sort of teamviewer app, then the technition will try to find the fault.

I tried to claim some compensation on the shiitty speeds i was getting with them on wifi, so they said they needed to run an ethernet speed check, but unfortunately my laptop didnt have an ethernet port, so the claim ended there, idiots.

You can also try Power-Line Adapters.
Power-line adapters are devices that turn a home’s electrical wiring into network cables for a computer network. They come in handy when you need to bring the Internet connection to a far corner in the basement where Wi-Fi signals can’t reach. A power-line connection is generally also more reliable than a wireless connection. With speeds up to 500Mbps, it’s also faster.
I am using them without any problems and they are a lot cheaper than getting your whole house wired. also can get more Adapters and only have 1 connect to the router. be careful get the same brand otherwise it might not work with each other.

Damn, I wish Virgin Media broadband was available here in America. You’re lucky you have that in England. 152 Mb broadband for 39 pounds per month ($66.79) is awsome. I’m paying $74 per month for 50 Mbps. What a ~ censored ~ rip off. I’m going to call my ISP to complain.

Thanks for that ill look into it. And I thought everything in America was cheap! Thats a rip off
