What Is Shader 3?

there is a game i wanna play named mercenaries 2 and when i open it this message appears to me > > > Mercenaries 2: World In Flames Requires a shader 3 capable video card to run < < < so what is shader 3 capable video card!!! ?? anyone can tell me please

It means your graphics card in your pc does not support shader model 3.0
All graphics cards (of ATI and Nvidia) that you can buy now support shader model 3.0

Shaders are the pretty effects like the cool transperency, or the cool light effects as light goes over an object, or the cool little bullet holes that look 3d but arent.
Mercenaries 2 just uses more cool little effects than the games you would usually play, a low budget 50 dollar card (assuming its pci-e express) will let you play it, 8600 > i would assume. If they even sell that low anymore. 9800 gt also extremly cheap and about as good as your 8800.
