Watching tv abroad

Hi all, just a bit of help so I can see the wood through the trees. My mother in law wants to watch UK programmes in her place in Portugal. She is on about getting a smart TV and routing it through a VPN to get access. I’ve used a VPN here in the UK before before I’m not sure how it would work with a smart TV or even which TV is configurable. I’ve seen various companies on the internet that stream UK programmes (through their own servers) for a set fee each month, I would have thought this would have been the most simple way. She is not tech savvy so I’m trying to work out the easiest way to advise her to do it. Does anyone have any experience or ideas???

I cant be bothered tracking the site/s down, but advertised here have been, say streaming sites of American/ English TV shows.. If you dont have already, connect a basic cheap comp to the TV and you will have the chans for free.. (You should be able to find the links here using the search..) Otherwise pay for it, such as mentioned….

Has a link specifically for UK TV as well as a lot of others… (Havnt tested them though, but if you go with my suggestion, your step mum should be happy..)

Yes Netflix if it is available.
I don’t see that you would need a VPN for a legal service unless it is blocked where she is.

KODI would be your best choice. it does require to program it into a android box or you could also install it on a PC (laptop) .
