Video editing and recording software

Hey guys, I’ve been watching some gameplay videos on youtube and wanted to give that a shot. I use the PC for gaming and would really appreciate some suggestions on the best apps to use for recording the gaming footage, and also one for editing it. Know that I’ve never edited a video in my life, wouldn’t mind learning to use the app before getting started so please don’t limit suggestions to newbie apps. Cheers and thanks.

FRAPS for screen recording, Camtasia Studio for the editing is what I use.
