August 5th, 2016

I am a newbe in this item.
I have a ACER Aspire E380 R01-A2 with hardisk Hitachi HDT725032VLA380 (ATA)
Partisjons:
C: (NTFS) 149872 Mb D: (FAT32) 150337 Mb My questions is:
1. Is it possible to convert D: from FAT32 to NTFS and must it be empty.(no data)
2. I like to make a new partition but as a newbe I do not know what to do. Must I empty my PC ? I have read allmost all topics here but I am more confused than before.
Mybe anyone know a site where I can read about it from scratch.

Answer #1
You don’t need to do anything special to convert an existing drive to ntfs
Open command prompt and type
convert d: /fs:ntfs
Answer #2
If you’re on XP, get Partition Magic to add partitions etc.. Backup, but there shouldn’t be a problem or need to remove any data. While you’re at it, you can convert to NTFS with this program too, if you want to stay out of cmd. For Vista, I recommend Acronis Disktools, with similar functions.
Answer #3
No need for any partition tools…Like TheDA pointed out..a single command and a bit of patience is all what needed…
Answer #4
Wow..nice info. Thanks DA
Answer #5
Acronis Disk Director Suite if you want to make new partitions..
Answer #6
Thanks
I use Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 3
D: is used only for movie/music/game.
But do I need to use BootIT NG before I convert?

But do I need to use BootIT NG before I convert?
nope
converting won’t move anything
just back-up critical data just in case, but have never had a conversion fail/lose data

So you’re saying it’s ok to convert the format while the files are in the same drive that’s being converted?
Because i’ve been moving and moving and moving just to convert..
Answer #9
Because i've been moving and moving and moving just to convert..
never had it take more than a few minutes to convert
the partition pretty packed, lots of files ?
Answer #10
When I converted my new external 320GB hard drive to ntfs, I did back everything up but the conversion didn’t lose any data. YES, you can convert to ntfs with files on that drive. I just recommend to backup in case something happens like your computer hiccups or power goes out or something random.
