[SOLVED] Urgent help with 169.254 IP Address
December 12th, 2013
I am currently using a two in one modem/wireless router provided by my ISP, which I have replaced twice but the same problem persists.
I even called them several times and they can not help me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.
Please noob proof your explanations as Im not a computer guru.
The IP address you are getting happens when the NIC cannot contact a DHCP server (and Windows allocates the169.254. address as a “fix” to allow local networking.)
You haven’t really given a lot of information to go on. Do you have more than one pc connected (wired) to your modem/router ?
I take it you have checked that all your cables are plugged in properly, and your ethernet card (NIC) is working, with up to date drivers ?
Start > Control Panel > Network connections.
Right click your internet connection and go to Properties, then, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) highlight this and look at the properties.
Check the box that says “Obtain an IP address automatically” or if your ISP has given you settings to use, make sure they are there and set.
Please post back after checking
APIPA.
Either the DHCP server is switched off or your DHCP client service is set to disabled.
I just did a windows repair during boot and that fixed it.
Really appreciate both your responses though.
