[Solved] Sonic 4 Episode 1 Save Problem

So I have the game on PC and when I play through the game and exit it doesn’t save my work. A quick Google search shows that changing the save file name to sonic_vis_save.dat solves the problem but it didn’t work. I played the first stage, exited the game, and it didn’t save. I think that fix is for the steam version only. Anyone know how to solve this?

Best answer I can give you from what I’ve found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRo6wzXKzUA which is what you’ve already tried, but in the comment section the who made the video said “Keep Playing, It Will Save (it Happened to me)” So maybe if you try it again it will work. I’ll keep looking though

I tried but it still didn’t work. I played up to the first boss, then I tried the Neon stage and it still didn’t work. The only fix I can find for the game is the one in the video, even on other websites. They all say to open the steam folder and change it so I think the fix is for them. Mine isn’t for Steam, it’s the Theta release that installs into its own folder.
Edit: I tried reinstalling it and it worked. My guess is I did something wrong when mounting it.
