[solved] Memory leak with Windows 7 ?
August 1st, 2016
have you tried looking at the task manager to see what app is taking up your RAM?
i’ve been using windows 7 for more than a year and have never experienced this.
Nothing is eating it up.
is “Show processes from all users” at the bottom ticked?
something must be using your RAM. it doesn’t just disappear…
Yep. I don’t understand it myself. I rebooted my pc earlier, and I’m already down to 2.83gb free RAM (normally have about 3.20gb free from my 4gb RAM)
did you download the windows 7 iso you installed from? if so, did you check the MD5 to make sure nobody added any surprises?
Did you disable virtual memory? If not check if there is an issue there..

It’s one of the last7 builds directly from Ron @ sharingisthepoint
Virtual memory is enabled and currently set to 4094MB.
You need to verify the ISO with the offical MD5.

Eventhough I got it from his links on his thread ?
Ok, is it possible to do a reinstall (over the top of Windows 7) and keep all my files and settings ?
Sure. All your old files will be placed in: C:\Windows.Old\
How about my applications (like photoshop and Office), will I have to install them again ?

more than a year good lord…those must have been the early beta days
Run memtest to see if there is a problem with your ram.
http://www.memtest86.com/
.
memtest shows no problems with the RAM
Get Process Explorer v11.33 from Microsoft:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Run it as administrator and keep it open. it will tell you what’s eating up alll your memory.
Here’s how it looks like running on my Windows 7 64-bits:
WS Private Bytes is the memory usage, highest to lowest, of each app/process.
if you are runnijng not antivirus with windows 7 that causes a mem issue with both 32/64 bit uninstall it and reinstall with latest version

Win 7 was released in late Octoboer of 2008 so it could be a little more than a year if he’s had it since it came out….
Back on topic, You should try to run a RAM cleaning app… I don’t remember any off the top of my head, but if you google some you should be able to find one…
RAM Booster was one i believe…

I guess you have to install it al over again since you’ll be reinstalling the whole OS not “repairing” it!!
You sure none of your processes are eating up the RAM? You need to look at them with Process Explorer like mention above, post screenshot. I would recommend doing a system repair with your Windows 7 disc.
Ok, checked with process explorer. TBH doesn’t make much sense to me (as I don’t know how much is normal)
Well… I thought that I’d try one last thing before reinstalling, so I tried running in safe mode, and there was no problem (I let it run in safe mode for around 2 and a half hours). Am I right in thinking that this is probably a driver/poorly written (or not really compatible with windows 7 64bit) problem then, as opposed to an OS issue ?
Edit: after a bit more research, it seems that this is the problem, and the fix:
