[SOLVED] Graphic Card Help
March 19th, 2014
I would like to know the difference between the nVidia GeForce GTX 460 – GDDR5 1GB and nVidia GeForce GT 545 – DDR3 3GB.
What is the difference between DDR3 and GDDR5? And which would be better if comparing the above Dedicated RAM
Thank you!
never heard of 545 card. must be a poop OEM product.
gtx 460 will be faster.
Even though the GT 454 uses 3GB ram, the GTX 460 which uses 1GB ram would be much faster?
yes, its not always about the RAM on a gfx card.
Listen to jock. Check this out if you want a general reference.

Thanks all, lastly, just to clarify this:
Some games such as Grand Theft Auto IV depends on the available RAM to decide the Game Quality etc
If I were to choose the GDDR5 (1GB) over/as compared to DDR3 (3GB), will I be able to choose much better Game Quality despite it is only 1GB GDDR5 as compared to 3GB DDR3?
Sorry for the long and complicated text.
You are confusing system RAM with GFX RAM which are two entirely different things!
The memory amount of a GFX has nothing to do with it’s actual performance,It’s all about the GPU.

Now your just making stuff up. Ram is a factor, but not near as important as the GPU. Did you look at the chart I linked you? Anything below Discrete: 8800 Ultra, 9800 GTX, 9800 GTX+, GTS 250, GTS 450 is going to be terrible for gaming. And if you want DX11, you need a 400 or 500 series.

the ram will store game content and gpu will use it to draw the scene. faster the gpu then faster it will draw. 1gb will be fine with a good gpu to back it up.
it can be limited by resolution. what resolution do you game at?
the gtx 460 will be able to draw faster than the 545 no matter what quality though. its no contest.
you should be able to run gta 4 on high depending on your CPU with a 460.
Thanks alot. Got it.

What hes talking about is the fact that GTA IV limits how high your settings can be by the amount of vram you have. Of course with more vram the game will let you set the settings higher but the card will not be able to handle it.
A graphics card is a small computer in itself with a motherboard and processor and ram. You dont just look at how much memory a computer has to decide how powerful it is do you?
